![]() It seems a bit odd for the multi-vehicle tracking to be through a waypoint sentence ($GPWPL), but if that is the only thing that is used for multi-vehicle tracking through your system we could potentially add support for that through an extra option or something. However, if your device embeds some custom positioning sentence in a NMEA stream we can probably add support rather easily. You setup the connection to your GPS device using the GPS->Setup menu command in Global Mapper.įor multi-vehicle tracking, currently only devices using the $PRAVE sentence that RaveonTech uses are supported (see ). It is worth noting that many newer automotive Garmin units (like the nuvi series) default their USB connection to work as a mass storage device and don't provide real-time position information over the USB connection without some extra work to force the units to switch the USB connection from mass storage mode to GPS tracking mode. Any Garmin device should be supported through either NMEA tracking over a serial (or USB-to-serial driver) connection, or through a direct USB connection for Garmin units that use the Garmin USB connection mode. The $GPRMC, $GPGLL, and $GPGGA sentences are all supported to get lat/lon position information, with several other sentences recognized for additional information. Global Mapper should be able to track any single connected GPS device that uses either NMEA-0183 or the Garmin protocol to provide its position information. My other question is where do you feed this data to the software? I assume it would be via the serial port, but where in the software do you set up and activate the reception of this data (ports, baud rates, etc)? Also if I am mobile (laptop in the truck) is it possible to have a GPS connected so I can track myself, but also have the radio modem sending fleet data to the software? Basically I want to see my self on the map as I drive in real time, and I want to see everyone else's current transmitted location too. The company owner might be willing to add a GM capable protocol if there was enough interest, but there is no reason to re-invent the wheel if it is not necessary. It also has some sort of Garmin NUVI data interface. But we use Tracker2 hardware ( ) in our existing system and it outputs either APRS Protocol data or the $GPWPL NMEA string for plotting on a Garmin GPS screen. My questions are, what are all of the data string formats that GM will accept and use to plot fleet data on the screen?
